Noise reduction in a suppressor is caused by trapping and cooling the expanding gases from the firearm's muzzle:
  • Trapping: The suppressor's baffles create a series of chambers that trap the expanding gases.
  • Cooling: The trapped gases are allowed to slowly cool down.
  • Reduced speed: The gases exit the suppressor at a much slower speed than they would without the suppressor.
  • Reduced noise: The reduced speed and cooling of the gases produces less noise.
