Tikka T3 LH 7mm-08 with EBS suppressor – SECOND HAND

Had no more than 50 shots through rifle.

EBS information

The EBS suppressor uses an aluminium body with stainless steel internal muzzlebrake and stainless steel internal baffels for long life.

Barrel is turned down to reduce the weight so on a Tikka T3 there is a very small change in the overall weight of the rifle from its original configuration

We use a full 30mm dia suppressor tube for your safety and to increase the internal volume in the suppressor.

Using innovative techniques we are able to bring the forearm out so minimum material is removed from the wall of the stock keeping the forend fully rigid. Which is extremely desirable for accuracy and MPI retention.

This suppressor can be removed for cleaning and a small coating of a special lubricant which we provide with the suppressor is used to coat the barrel to prevent the firing residue hardening and sticking on the barrel. We don’t recommend automotive grease for the obvious reason!

Users may elect to simply leave the suppressor on and let it fill with carbon in which case the suppressor will outlast the life of the barrel in this calibre.

Seldom available off the shelf, this is an ideal opportunity to get the original alloy enclosed barrel suppressor from NZ’s original leading manufacturer.

Benefit from Gunworks’s vast suppressor experience!!!!

At the completion of WWI quite a number of field guns, machine guns and other trophies were distributed amongst the Commonwealth armies that fought.

In the 1920’s it seemed like every small town was gifted something from the war trophy collection (see R.S. Billets book ‘War Trophies from the First World War 1914-1918, for interesting details on Aust and some NZ war trophy history ISBN 0 86417 977 4). This could range from a compact minenwerfer, a mountain gun or even 77mm Krupp gun. Bigger towns received bigger guns such as the recently restored Krupp in Wellington, NZ.

This MG08 machine gun would have come into NZ under that war trophy allocation.

For whatever reason most of these guns have now disappeared either into the hands of collectors or have simply rotted away where they stood. The machine guns in Waitaki Boys High in Oamaru being one of those examples. This gun was found in a small town, the original owner had it apparently for 60 or 70yrs in a shed and recently decided that it was no longer appropriate to hold it without a licence and it was surrendered for registration and sale. NZ Police are very reasonable about this, so provided it goes to a licenced collector of restricted weapons they know it will be properly secured and saved for future generations

I was very pleased to be able to buy this gun, although missing some parts. The overall condition was a lot better than the outside would indicate. The first stage of this gun was to strip and ascertain what needed to be done.

As I got it, it is missing the top cover, breech block, feed tray and muzzle booster. Fortunately I had a breech block and feed tray in my collection of old crappola. The top cover remains unfound and the muzzle booster we will have to make from scratch, but not a difficult job for our gunsmiths.

Once the weapon was stripped it was put in the de-rusting tanks for a period and as the before and after photos show the de-rusting via electrolysis has gone very well and the gun is in much better condition now.

Always a dilemma with this sort of restoration is the problem to losing the painted on army capture/trophy numbers but I have traced them as best as I can, I will debate whether I will reapply them or just have the photos indicating what the numbers were.

In NZ we are not permitted to fire machine guns on a C licence and that is fine with me, I fired enough machineguns in the NZ Army to cure me of any desire to waste my own ammo!!!. They can be fired with blank and that often happens here at airshows where First World War re-enactors fire these old Maxim 08s and 08/15s to the delight of the crowd.

More pictures to come as the restorartion continues, no refinishing will be involved, just ensuring the rust is dead, and that I can make it complete as parts come available. Anyone have a top cover???????Thanks for looking

*Robbie Tiffen has been a trained riflesmith since 1984

* Robbie Tiffen first experiemented in the design of the overbarrel
sound suppressor in the early 1980′s.

* Gunworks was the first to design and manufacture the overbarrel
sound suppressor in NZ

* Gunworks was the first to advertise the overbarrel sound suppressor
for sale to NZ Hunters and Shooters in the 1980′s

* The Gunworks overbarrel suppressor design is the base design for
many of the overbarrel suppressors you see in NZ today.

* Gunworks currently employs more gunsmiths than any other
suppressor or gunsmithing workshop in NZ.

* Gunworks’ gunsmiths are also qualified engineers.

* Robbie Tiffen’s nine deployments overseas with the NZ Army Rifle
Team and Combat Shooting Teams proves we can not only repair
rifles to a high standard we can also shoot then with the worlds best.

* Robbie has deployed with NZ peacekeeping forces to East Timor in
2000.

Pics from the workshop this week show a CZ 550 Magnum undergoing conversion from .375 H&H to .338 Lapua Magnum. Barrel is the excellant Trueflite ultra match at 28″”, bolt face altered, ejection port cut back (in fact this is a minor defect with the CZ action, and probably should be done to all 550s as it does affect positive ejection of the spent case.

Devcon bedding getting trimmed in the mill. Devcon is an expensive compound, but from seeing its reliability in sniper rifles over the years convinces me that it is very hard to beat in adverse condition.

Muzzle brake is our 2 port directional Tiger II which we find very effective, there is plenty of bollocks talked about muzzle brakes (such as the quiet muzzle brake..WTF?), but next time you see a Main Battle Tank (MBT) rumble past have a look at whats on the end of the main armament, a two port directional will be in place because tank turret rings, bearings and suspension have to have the firing load reduced as much as possible, and most tanks are firing projectiles at over 5000fps!

last year I started using the 17HMR for rabbits in North Canterbury farms, a converted Ruger 10/22 magnum with a 17 barrel, heavy bolt handle and delrin buffer. I was intially sceptical of this cartridge, but using it turned me around to the benefits of the 17, low report (with suppressor obviously) and low ricochet danger.

I did feel the 17 HMR didn’t shoot as far as I needed, so built up a 17 Rem on an AR15. I am not a fan of long rifles (or loud ones), and a suppressor always adds length, so the only option (short of rebarrelling a Steyr AUG!) was a shortish barrel on the AR.

I took this opportunity to quickly test three loads with (slow powder and fast powder) with long and short versions of the same barrel, so the data I have here may be of interest to someone doing something similar. Bullet is a 25gn Vmax

So briefly…….

Load ……………27″”barrel average………….16″”barrel average……….Vel loss
24gn AR2208………….3840…………………………..3457……………………383
24gn 748………………3919…………………………..3564……………………355
20gn AR2207…………..3918…………………………..3634……………………284

Accuracy was best with the fast burning AR2207 in both short and long barrels, so will be sticking with that.

Pics below show the semi finished set up (still have to flute the barrel), with suppressor fitted, and the dismantled pic shows the off cut of the Walther barrel.
